Snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas: FAQs for Inexperienced Snorkelers

Snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas ...

... can be a lot of fun, but if you're a newbie or haven't had a lot of experience, you may have some important questions about the water temperature, currents and more.

Q: Can I snorkel even if I'm not the best swimmer?

A: Yes, you can. Even if you're not a great swimmer, you can still snorkel because the flotation device you wear, will help you stay buoyant in the water. To snorkel, you just kick you r legs to move. You can also float near the top of the water and look down at the beautiful world of marine life below you.

Q: Is the water cold in Cabo?

A: It’s usually always pretty nice. In the warm season, it gets up to about 85 degrees. During the coldest times of the year, it can be as low as 65 degrees. The air temperature and how much the sun is shining determines the temperature of the water.

Q: Which are the best places to snorkel in Cabo San Lucas?

A: There are some incredible snorkeling spots, but the best is considered to be Cabo Pulmo. It boasts the only live coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. The marine life you'll see while snorkeling is second to none. Read about our favorite Cabo San Lucas snorkeling spots.

Q: How easy is it to see underwater?

A: If you vacation between July and December you can see anywhere from 25 to 100 feet in front of you. This is excellent visibility. If you vacation at a different time of year, the water might not be as clear. Usually, though, it is clear enough to snorkel.

With so many great things to see and do in Cabo San Lucas, there are a lot of people visiting year round. In order to make sure that you get the accommodations that you want, be sure to book your trip early. The last thing you want is a language barrier creating a misunderstanding or preventing you from fully enjoying your trip.
