Diving Conditions
During spring and summer, the visibility in the Sea of Cortez is excellent (usually from 60-80 feet), except when the plankton blooms which can muddy up the water.
About Scuba Diving Cabo San Lucas
Located at Land's End (at the southern most tip of the Baja Sur Peninsula) where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez join, these turquoise waters are literally teeming with ocean life. In fact the Sea of Cortez is the home of over 2000 species of invertebrates and 900 vertebrates. This count makes it the richest body of ocean water in the world and means an incredible diving experience for you. On a dive trip, you can see whales, dolphin, gentle whale shark (that eat plankton, not people), not-so-friendly sharks, eagle rays, manta rays, curious and playful sea lions and much more.
Watch this video below about diving with the sea lions. (This was on a dive trip led by our favorite dive shop, Manta Diving.)
Top Beach Dive Locations - perfect for divers of all levels.
Chileno Beach (if you go night diving here, you'll see an ocean aglow with plankton)
Santa Maria Bay
El Arco at Land's End
Playa del Amor reef
If you're NAUI or PADI-certified, you'll want to go out on a dive boat. Some of the best dive spots are just 10-30 minutes from the shore which means you can spend most of your trip underwater. If you have an underwater camera, bring it along because you'll be witness to incredible marine cliffs, live coral reefs and of course, all the ocean life.
