San Jose del Cabo Fishing - An Angler's Dream

San Jose del Cabo fishing ...

... is among the most extraordinary in the world. Located on the Baja California Sur peninsula approximately 20 miles east of Cabo San Lucas, you can fish inshore from a panga (a small motorized boat with a captain) or on a modern sports fishing charter boat.

Since the tip of the Baja peninsula is the juncture of two oceans: the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, it provides a nutrient-dense ecosystem and an incredible habitat that attracts a variety of marine life.

San Jose del Cabo fishing In fact some of the best fishing in the area Jacques Cousteau referred to as the "World's Aquarium" is located at two underwater mounds referred to as "Inner Gordo Banks" and "Outer Gordo Banks" which are just 6 miles from the shore. Since even a newbie angler can catch a marlin (striped, blues and black), yellowfin tuna, dorado (known in other parts of the world as mahi-mahi) or sailfish this is where most of the charter boats congregate, although they sometimes head toward Cabo San Lucas (and the Pacific side) or turn northeast.

This is also the area where each May "tuna crabs" rise to the ocean's surface by the billions, creating what can be described only as a red cover stretching for miles across the sea. In your wildest dreams, you can't imagine the numbers and variety of marine life this red crab event attracts.

San Jose del Cabo fishing is an angler's dream and even fishing in the traditional way from a panga can create an experience beyond compare. These boats are pushed into the ocean at down from the shores of a small oceanfront town called La Playita. Although the weather can sometimes make things challenging for the captain of a panga, mexican fisherman have been fishing this way in the waters off the Baja California shore for generations. The best fishing to be had is from March-November, when the water tends to be warmer and anglers can catch roosterfish, snapper, and yellowfin tuna and other varieties of fish. San Jose del Cabo panga fishing Although for awhile, San Jose del Cabo seemed to be lagging behind Cabo San Lucas in terms of development, it is rapidly catching up and today, proudly features a new marina, well-planned infrastructure and large hotel chains that are adding a modern flair to this quaint and romantic city. With the airport just miles away, a San Jose del Cabo fishing trip makes a perfect getaway for a 3-day weekend fishing trip with the guys and is also a beautiful place to take your spouse or the entire family.
