Cabo San Lucas Vacation: Planning Your Trip to Cabo
Your Cabo vacation ... Your ... can be spectacular if you plan ahead. You wouldn't drive to a city you've never been to before without taking a map. Consider your pre-vacation research a way of making a mental map of Cabo—getting a good feel for what the city is like—where to stay, where to play and what to see. This will help you get the most out of your stay.
As you can read on the About Us page, my family and I have gone on a Cabo San Lucas vacation every year for the past twenty years. As such, we a know a few secrets about the area. While it might seem boring that we travel to the same place every year, it shows how much we love the area.
Cabo is situated at the tip of the Baja Peninsula where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. The merging of two oceans makes for a rich marine ecosystem with more than 500 varieties of fish. This is why Cabo is viewed as the fishing capital of the world and is well-known for its catch-and-release policy regarding marlin. Even if you're not into fishing, you might want to try your hand at reeling in a marlin. It's an experience not to be missed.
Due to the unique combination of ecosystems—desert and rainforest—there is much to do on your Cabo San Lucas vacation. You can take a trek to Miraflores, named for its beautiful flowers and natural waterfalls. You can go for an outback excusion of the desert. Or go swimming in the ocean, take a cruise, take a ride on a pirate ship, engage in water sports or fish. The beaches in Cabo are beautiful especially because they are juxtaposed by the rugged elegance of towering saguaro cacti.
Head round the Baja tip and you'll find yourself in Todos Santos, site of the infamous Hotel California (from the song by the Eagles.) Raise a toast to the Eagles from across the street at The Eagles cafe. Record this moment in history by writing your name on the wall. Get back in your rental car and head in the same direction and you'll wind up in La Paz, where there is enough selection to satisfy the most discerning shopper.
Although Cabo used to be a quaint little fishing village, it has grown into a bustling tourist town. Cabo hotels are plentiful, as are time shares and beach vacation rentals. You can stay in town, along the Corridor or in San Jose del Cabo which is less than a hour's drive from the Baja tip.
The nightlife in Cabo is extraordinary with the Cabo Wabo cantina, the Giggling Marlin, Squid Row, dance clubs, tequila bars, 5 star restaurants and sidewalk cafes. If you're bringing your children along, there is a huge arcade—El Recercho—located at the El Paraiso Mall. There is also a multiplex cinema at the mall.
As you read the pages on our web site, you'll get ideas for your Cabo San Lucas vacation. Pay attention to what sounds fun for your family and write it down. Plan days of activity—like a six hour fishing trip or a four hour quad runner tour of the outback—and intersperse them with days of rest. Do your best to satisfy personal preferences. If your husband likes to fish and you like to sunbathe by the pool and read a novel, then you'll each get to engage in an activity that appeals to you. When your husband returns from his trip, you can meet for drinks and dinner—which will hopefully revolve around some freshly-caught fish.
If your Cabo San Lucas vacation is a family affair, then intersperse activities for adults with those for kids. Spend three or four hours at the local arcade, El Rechercho and your kids will feel like they had the time of their lives. The little ones, both boys and girls, really enjoy painting ceramics on the beach. Spend a day dodging the waves and building sand castles and then get a baby sitter for the evening, so you and your husband can hit the town.
