Tips for selecting a Cabo San Lucas Vacation Rental

• Think about how much space you'll need. The shorter your vacation, the less you'll feel cramped in a small timeshare or condo, espcially if you plan to spend most of your time outside.

• How important is your privacy? If you're a social butterfly and enjoy meeting new people on your trip, rent a timeshare. You'll meet plenty of interesting people in the places where other vacationers congregate: the clubhouse, the lobby, on the beach and by the pool.

• If your family and extended family are accompanying you, then the perfect Cabo San Lucas vacation rental may be a large villa or series of condos.   Be aware that some timeshare units are designed to accomodate large parties with separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms which are adjoined by common living areas.

• When deciding on a Cabo San Lucas vacation rental, consider which activities you will be doing most. As a veteran Cabo San Lucas vacationer, I recommend that you stay close to where you'll play. For instance, if you're planning to sport fish, rent a villa that is close to the marina and all the action that surrounds it.

  Being close to the marina will save you on taxi fares (which are expensive in Los Cabos) and make those 5 am wake-up calls for sport fishing a little easier to take.

• If you're a golfer, stay at a golf resort. Make sure it offers plenty of activities for any non-golfers who accompany you.
  
  

• If you spend many hours on the beach with your family, rent a cabana or beach bungalow that opens up to the sand. Most of the upscale resorts have timeshares with daycare with scheduled kid activities, so parents can enjoy an afternoon alone while children are entertained. (Although you'll want to check out anyone who watches your kids, the Mexican culture celebrates children. As a mother who has taken her children to Cabo since they were two months old, in many ways, I feel my kids are safer in Mexico than in the United States.)

• If you plan to shop until you drop and participate in the nightlife, get a Cabo San Lucas vacation rental that is close to the center of town and El Paraiso, the newly built and luxuriously appointed mall. If you stay on the outskirts of Los Cabos and shop in town, be prepared to pay hefty cab fares.

Although you don't have to book a Cabo San Lucas vacation rental near your favorite activities, it's nice to step outside and be right where you want to be. Saving time by "staying where you play" can heighten your sense of freedom and spontaneity and give you more time to explore those out-of-the-way places that you will discover while walking around.
