Cabo San Lucas Snorkeling Hot Spots
Cabo San Lucas snorkeling ...... is an experience beyond your imagination. You'll see colorful schools of tropical fish such as bright yellow angelfish, blue and green parrot fish, stonefish, needlefish and snappers. You may also be lucky enough to encounter a manta ray, moray eel or stingray. All this is set against a backdrop of stunning coral reefs and crystal clear visibility that seems to stretch forever. Best of all, the water temperature seldom drops below 70 degrees. Snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas - Favorite Snorkel Spots - Cabo Pulmo is widely known as the best diving spot around. This preserve boasts a living coral reef that is valued and protected by the locals. Although the visibility makes it a great place for beginners and advanced snorkelers and divers, in certain areas, like Gordo Banks (also called Wahoo Banks), the currents can be strong. Depths in Cabo Pulmo vary from 15-130 feet. You will see incredible schools of tropical fish, whale sharks and hammerheads and even the occasional school of dolphins.
- The Corridor is known as the strip of land (and the open waters that border it) that stretches between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. In this area, you'll find four popular Cabo San Lucas snorkeling sites:
- Chileno Bay - here you'll find starfish, flower urchins and hydroids. Depths range from 10-80 feet.
- The Blow Hole - features a variety of ocean terrains including rock cuts, caverns, boulders and tunnels where you'll be amazed at schools of grouper, amberjack and even manta rays and sea turtles. Depths range from 60-100 feet.
- Shipwreck - this is the site of the crash of a Japanese fishing boat. Diving depths range from 40-60 feet.
- Bahia Santa Maria - excellent visibility. Here you can see eels, octopus and colorful schools of tropical fish. Depths are range from 20-60 feet.
- One of the most famous Cabo San Lucas snorkeling spots is Lover's Beach. Just take a water taxi from the marina, bring a lunch and spend the day sunning, eating and snorkeling at Land's End—the famous Baja Tip—where the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez meets the turbulent waters of the Pacific Ocean. You can even walk over to Divorce Beach which is on the Pacific side.
